February 2012:
February will be an event filled month for Crab Orchard High School and Elementary School students and parents.
This year’s Scripps Spelling Bee winner – Miss Alyssa Bozarth, 5th grade, will compete as our Grand Champion in the Scripps Evansville Courier Spelling Bee in Evansville, Indiana on February 4, 2012. Congratulations! and Best of Luck! to Alyssa.

Crab Orchard High School has earned an Illinois State Board of Education Academic Improvement Award for 2011.
The 2011 Academic Improvement Award honors 114 schools across the state that have posted substantial gains. These schools demonstrate that exemplary progress is possible at every level and can be sustained.
The criteria for Academic Improvement awards in 2011 are substantial:
• Show improvement of at least 7.5 points in state test scores in both reading and mathematics between 2010 and 2011, or
• Show an improvement of at least 15 points in state test scores in both reading and mathematics between 2009 and 2011; and
• Show an upward trend in state test results.
Pre-K thru Grade 8 Valentine parties are Tuesday, February 14 @ 12:45 PM.
Friday, February 17, there will be an 11:30 AM dismissal for all students. The faculty will conduct professional development in-service workshops in the afternoon.
No School attendance on Monday, February 20, in honor of President’s Day.
During the month of February, our elementary, middle school and junior high students will be doing extensive preparation for the ISAT exams. The ISAT’s will be given February 27-March 2.
